5 Vitamins You Can Find in Matcha

Bianca Kamhi, Holistic Health & Accountability Coach

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a drink in the morning that gives you energy, tastes delicious and also happens to be packed with tons of vitamins? If only that existed - oh but wait, it does!

Matcha is that magic drink that we are all after. Aside from the many antioxidants it contains, the energy boost it provides, its weight loss kick and detoxifying elements, the nutritional facts of matcha are astounding!

Matcha is rich in vitamins A, C, E, K, and B-complex vitamins.

These vitamins are crucial components for a healthy functioning system. Vitamin B6, for example, is a nutrient that improves metabolism, digestion, oxidation, immune system function, and cell repair (aka anti-aging… which we can all raise our hands up for with major interest!)

Matcha also contains trace minerals including selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium.

Magnesium, for example, helps fight Type 2 Diabetes, may lower blood pressure, and may even help prevent migraines.

One serving of matcha green tea (½ tsp or 1 gr) contains 306mg of protein, 272mg total amino acids, and 50mg of lipids, amongst other nutrients. This miracle powder (as I like to call it) has minerals such as potassium (27mg), magnesium (2.3 mg) calcium (4.2mg), zinc (.062mg), phosphorus (3.5mg) and iron (.17mg).

To be specific, 1 gram of matcha contains vitamins A (more than 50% of the daily intake of vitamin A carotene) C, E, K, and B1, B2, B6 (B complex).

It is rich in components with antioxidant activity including polyphenols, catechins, and chlorophyll. As a comparison, matcha tea powder has 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea! This is because matcha contains the whole green tea leaf finely grounded (and not a tea bag you throw away). Therefore, you get 10x more nutrients in matcha vs brewed green tea.
